Professional Forklift Inspections

What are forklift inspections?

Officially referred to as a ‘Thorough Examination’, forklift inspections are a legal requirement for any business that owns and operates forklifts. The inspection is required by law to be undertaken once per year and simply ensures that each forklift is in a safe working order.

How often do I need a forklift inspection?

In accordance with both LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) 1998 and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) 1998, forklifts must have a ‘thorough examination’ once per year, and possibly every 6 months depending on the exact type of equipment, but we can help advise if you have any queries.

Why should I use AV Statutory Inspections?

As explained within the legal regulations for both LOLER and PUWER, the inspections must be undertaken ‘using people who are sufficiently competent’. We provide a fully comprehensive service with over 20 years experience and therefore will ensure your organisation is complete coherence with the legal regulations.

What is included in a forklift examination?

A thorough examination is undertaken for each forklift your organisation owns. This examination includes a wide range of tests and inspections, much alike a car MOT, to ensure the forklift is in fully working order and safe for staff to use. Not to be considered as a fully-extensive list, our forklift inspections include numerous checks for aspects such as:

  • Functionality of operational equipment including brakes, steering wheel etc.
  • Testing of functional safety devices including seat belts, horns etc
  • Fluid levels including hydraulic fluid, oil and water etc
  • Any cracks, leaks and visible defects
  • Mast chain check including tension, level, stretching or breaks etc
  • Condition of tyres including pressure, punctures etc
  • Condition of fork including top clip and heel
  • Functioning load backrest extension
  • Condition of forklift model and safety plates
  • Ensure log book and operator manual are present and readable
