What are gantry crane inspections?
By law, any organisation who owns and operates gantry cranes must abide by the LOLER regulations which state a ‘thorough examination’ must be undertaken by ‘people who are sufficiently competent’. How often do I need a gantry crane inspection?
Again, referencing the LOLER Regulations – it is stated that gantry cranes must be ‘thoroughly examined at specified periods’ which includes a minimum of an annual inspection for overhead gantry cranes, wire rope hoists and chain hoists. However, if any of these are deemed as ‘high usage’ then we would recommend 6 monthly inspections for these types of equipment.
